Labour Force January 2014

THERE are some positive headlines from January’s Labour Force. The ABS jobs publication showed that in our state both the unemployment rate and participation rates remained steady.

The report showed the following:

 

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE

From December to January the unemployment rate remained at 7.6%.

PARTICIPATION RATE

The participation rate during this same period also remained static at 59.7%

EMPLOYED TOTAL PERSONS

From December to January the total number of employed persons increased from 230,800 to 231, 000.

EMPLOYED FULL TIME – TOTAL PERSONS

The number of Tasmanians employed full time jumped from 148,600 to 149, 300 between December and January.

UNEMPLOYED – TOTAL PERSONS

During the same period the total number of unemployed persons in Tasmania fell slightly from 19,000 to 18,900.

POPULATION

During this time the release also shows the civil population in Tasmania increased from 418,600 to 418,700.

NATIONALLY

Australia wide, the unemployment rate was up by 0.1 percentage points to 6% in January.
