Labour Force May 2014

LATEST jobs figures show that from April to May the unemployment rate remained steady, with the participation rate rising slightly.

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE

From April to May the unemployment rate stayed the same at 7.5%.

PARTICIPATION RATE

For the same period the participation rate up slightly from 60.7% to 60.9%.

EMPLOYED TOTAL PERSONS

From April to May the total number of people employed increased by 500 from 235, 300 to 235,900.

EMPLOYED FULL TIME – TOTAL PERSONS

During this time the number of Tasmanians employed full time also rose, up from 153, 400 to 154, 100.

UNEMPLOYED – TOTAL PERSONS

For the same period the total number of people who were unemployed was up, increasing from 19,100 to 19,200.

POPULATION

From April to May the state’s population increased by 100 people, from 419,100 to 419,200.

NATIONALLY

Nationally the unemployment rate was also steady at 5.8%.
