April jobs figures – not great news for Tasmania
APRIL jobs figures for the state released today had a sting to them.
The unemployment rate was up from March rising from 6.8% to 6.9%.
The participation rate was also down from 60.9 the previous month to 60.8% in April.
The number of Tasmanians employed dropped by 700 in April, from 239,700 to 239,000. The number of people in full-time employment remained the same – at 154,800.
The total number of unemployed Tasmanians now sits at 17,600, up from 17,400 in March.
Nationally the unemployment rate was also up for April, up 0.1 percentage points to 6.2%.
