CPSU helps Member with inadequate selection process

A MEMBER recently applied for a permanent position but wasn’t selected for interview.  The Member asked for feedback on their application and during this it became apparent that the chair of the selection panel had based their decision on personal experience and opinion rather than the substance of our Member’s application. The feedback also suggested that the Member had performance issues, which hadn’t previously been raised with them.
We wrote to the Agency to raise our concerns and after some investigation, the vacancy was withdrawn because the selection process didn’t run properly.  The Department also committed to professional development for the chair of the panel on how to undertake a selection process, providing post selection feedback and also appropriately raising performance issues through the performance review process.  Following this and our Member receiving appropriate feedback, a new selection process for the position will be run.
