The Greens’ TasTAFE commitments

On Sunday the Tasmanian Greens promised to spend $20 million on TasTAFE.

They would:

  • Ensure 70 per cent of state government training contracts are awarded to TasTAFE as the public provider;
  • Spend $20m in capital works funding;
  • Fund 10 new staff members to improve quality and compliance as well as training resource and assessment development; and
  • Release the audit into TasTAFE.

We know workers at TasTAFE build the skills Tasmanians need and provide opportunities. However, over the last four years we’ve seen cuts to this vital service, with more and more funding directed to private training providers, who are there to make a profit or for their own benefit.

We welcome investment in this important public service.
