Devils program in jeopardy
WORK to save endangered species could stop if the State Government has its way. The government recently rejected three Save the Tasmanian Devil Program Field Officers’ plea for permanency. All these workers are highly experienced with tertiary qualifications. Without their contracts renewed, the program, and ultimately the devils, will lose out. The government is also indicating that the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program could be on the chopping block.
If this important program is axed, the devils aren’t the only endangered species that will suffer. Without the program, the Field Officers’ work with the Orange Bellied Parrot will be left entirely to volunteers. The CPSU supports these four workers in a reconsideration of their applications.
