Tassie wages lowest in Australia
ACCORDING to CommSec research, Tasmania has the lowest average annual wages in Australia: $61,532 compared to the ACT, which had the highest average annual wage of $80,766.
Tasmania’s annual wage saw a 4% increase over the year, and across Australia in the March quarter average weekly ordinary time earnings rose by 1.1%. Public sector wages rose by 1% in the March quarter and by 4% over the year. The average wage in Australia now stands at $69,992.
The report reveals the gap between male and female earnings shows no signs of closing, with on average men earning $13,031 more per year than women. The CommSec research was based on the ABS’ Average Weekly Earnings series, which is published quarterly.
