Tassie’s unemployment rate climbs
TASMANIA’S unemployment rate rose in April according to the latest ABS Labour Force statistics. Meanwhile Australia’s unemployment rate saw a surprise drop during the same month. For Tasmania the unemployment rate for the state rose from 7.5% in March 2012 to 7.7% in April 2012. The participation rate also fell slightly from 60.8% in March to 60.7% in April.
Australia’s unemployment rate dropped 0.2% to 4.9% in April in seasonally adjusted terms. The number of people employed increased by 15,500 in April, with the number of people unemployed dropped 28,800 people to 598,200 for the month In April the participation rate dropped 0.1% to 65%, while the aggregate monthly hours worked increased by 6.6 million hours to 1663.9 million hours. For the month Full-time employment dropped 0.1%, while part-time employment increased 0.8%.
