Valued Organiser leaves the CPSU team
WE SAID goodbye to Organiser Mel Parker last week. Mel started with the CPSU in June 2010 in reception and the Member Advice & Support Team (MAST).
“It was a great introduction to the organisation as I got firsthand experience with the Members and also got to learn the ins and outs of the awards. All the staff in MAST were generous with their knowledge and so I was never hesitant to ask for help.”
After working in MAST for 6 months Mel then moved to the Organising and Campaigning Team.
“It was an exciting move and a bit of a learning curve. Working in OCT meant a lot more face to face interaction with Members and building a rapport with them and the Delegates which I really enjoyed. I learnt so much during my time with the CPSU, from my colleagues and the Members. The knowledge I gained will be of use to me in my future workplaces and I look forward to sharing my union values with others.”
Mel is now taking these skills and embarking on a new career path. Although we’ll miss seeing her in the office every day, we’re sure she’ll succeed in her new venture and we wish her all the best. Acting General Secretary Mat Johnston said Mel had been a valued worker for our union.
“She’s added vitality and fun to our workplace and both her work and her friendship will be missed.”
We’ll farewell Mel in CPSU style this Friday.
