CPSU ABC Cuts Hurt rally
CUTS hurt Tasmania.
That was the message at the Federal CPSU’s rally today in Hobart.
The rally highlighted the number of Australian Public Service job cuts in our state.
Paper people were used to highlight the number of jobs lost – more than 500 since 2008.
The rally comes after ABC Managing Director Mark Scott announced the closure of the ABC Tasmanian production unit, which could mean 16 jobs lost.
CPSU Regional Secretary for Tasmania Paul Blake said the rally was about sending a strong message to the ABC and public sector management that Tasmanians needed these quality jobs.
“With the announcement last week of a Senate Inquiry into ABC Regional Production it is appropriate that any decision on the future of Tasmanian ABC Production unit is postponed until the inquiry is finished”, Mr Blake said.
