Unions take to the streets for fire appeal

CPSU Members and staff joined other Tasmanian unions yesterday in an effort to raise money for their fire appeal.

The Unions’ Fire Appeal 2013 kicked off on January 7 after bushfires devastated Tasmanian communities.

The joint appeal saw barbecues held around the state to raise funds.

Some Members held fundraisers in their workplace, raising hundreds for the cause.

The appeal culminated in a collection day yesterday. Around Tasmanian cities union Members and staff took to the streets to shake tins.

The CPSU alone raised $2369.95 yesterday – an amazing effort!

CPSU Member Kate Crossin was one of the volunteers shaking a can.

Working at Port Arthur Historic Site, Kate personally knows many who’ve lost homes down the Peninsula.

Yesterday she said it was great to do her bit for the cause. While she was collecting Kate met Tasmanians who’d lost their homes, who really appreciated the fundraising effort.

Stay tuned for the total amount raised on the Collection Day.
