ABS: Union Membership steady in Aus
FOR the last three years Australian Trade Union Membership has remained steady.
The proportion of employees who were union members in their main job held at 18% during this time, the latest ABS Figures show.
Released today, the report revealed there were 1.8 million trade union members in August 2012.
The public sector had a higher proportion of union members (43%) than the private sector (13%).
The report also showed 20% of full time employees were trade union members compared to 14% of part time workers
Just under 2/3 of union members had been in a union for five years or more. One in ten had been a union member for less than a year.
