Jobs figures up in March

The ABS reported more good news for our state in its March Labour Force report. Read the highlights below.

 

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE

From February to March the unemployment rate dropped slightly from 7.5% in February to 7.4% in March.

 

PARTICIPATION RATE

The participation rate during this same period increased slightly from 60.1% to 60.3%

 

EMPLOYED TOTAL PERSONS

From February to March the total number of employed persons jumped from 232, 900 to 233,700.

 

EMPLOYED FULL TIME – TOTAL PERSONS

During this time the number of Tasmanians employed full time also increased from 150,200 to 150,800.

 

UNEMPLOYED – TOTAL PERSONS

For the same period the total number of people who were unemployed dropped marginally from 18,800 to 18,700.

 

POPULATION

From February to March Tasmania’s civil population increased by 100 people from 418,800 to 418,900.

 

NATIONALLY

Nationally the unemployment rate was down 0.2 percentage points to 5.8%
