Employer consults with staff thanks to CPSU

YOUR CPSU has achieved a great result in Housing Tasmania.

Without any consultation management moved to shift duties from the North-West region to the North and the South, a change that would impact staff across the state. The CPSU wrote to management pointing out this was a possible breach of the consultation clause in the Health & Human Services Award (HAHSA) along with Employment Direction 19 that outlines how consultation should occur through a four stage approach.

As a result, management has now agreed to consult with staff and unions and staff can now have their say on the proposal and have their feedback considered – a great result.

Proper consultation must be built into the change process – if you notice change going ahead without consultation it could be a breach of the employers’ obligations. Asking employees for their thoughts and feedback on change in their workplace ultimately means better decisions.
