Unemployment rate steady

THE unemployment rate remained unchanged both at a state and national level in April, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. See the key points from the monthly Labour Force release below.

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE

From March to April the unemployment rate stayed the same at 7.5%.

PARTICIPATION RATE

For the same period the participation rate increased slightly from 60.6-60.9%.

EMPLOYED TOTAL PERSONS

From March to April the total number of employed persons was up from 234,900 to 236,000.

EMPLOYED FULL TIME – TOTAL PERSONS

During this time the number of Tasmanians employed full time increased from 152,800 to 154,000.

UNEMPLOYED – TOTAL PERSONS

For the same period the total number of people who were unemployed increased marginally from 19,000 to 19, 100.

POPULATION

From March to April the state’s population increased slightly from 418,900 to 419,100.

NATIONALLY

Nationally the unemployment rate was steady at 5.8%.
