Discrimination for union activity unlawful

DID you know it’s unlawful for someone to discriminate against you for your industrial activity?

The Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tas) lists industrial activity as one of the 22 attributes that constitute discrimination in certain areas of activity that include:


• Employment

• Awards, enterprise agreements or industrial agreements

• Education and training

• Membership and activities of clubs


That means it’s breaking the law to discriminate against you if you’re a union member or if you’re not a union Member, or for any industrial activity you’re involved in. As a Member, it might be helpful or reassuring to know that you are protected as a union member under this Act.
