School Business Manager Jan Robertson receives well-deserved recognition
CONGRATULATIONS to Penguin District School’s Jan Robertson.
In the role for 10 years, the CPSU Member received the School Business Manager of the Year in the Department of Education’s Awards for Excellence.
Talking to the CPSU this morning, Jan said she was humbled to accept the award.
“In this stage of my career, it’s really a really nice recognition. It’s also great recognition for School Business Managers.”
Jan helped with the change over from Penguin High School to Penguin District School last year.
“I think that was a reason why I was nominated – all the extra things to do that come with the amalgamation.”
Like other workers in schools across the state, the students are her main source of motivation.
“For example, just this morning a student needed some new clothing. I was able to action that very quickly and they went happily back to class. For me the students come first.
“I’m also really passionate about public education, and the belief that everyone who comes to school should be treated in the exact same way. If I can make a tiny little difference to just one student, that’s what matters to me.”
What does she love about the role? “It’s the diversity that I really like.”
“It’s great to work in a school where all staff, no matter what their role is, are passionate about doing their best for kids every day.
“We have an amazing staff – and I’m sure it’s the same for all schools across the state.”
