TIC to hear from PS unions on systemic breaches of the Awards around consultation
AS REPORTED in last week’s Member News (click here) the impossibility of agencies adhering to their consultation obligations under the Awards has become abundantly clear. As we explained last week, your CPSU, the AEU and HACSU made application to the Tasmanian Industrial Commission to uphold the Award provisions dealing with consultation and change in workplaces.
“We’ll be appearing in the Industrial Commission on Monday morning to prosecute our argument that the government has effectively mandated widespread and systemic breaches of the Awards”, CPSU Assistant Secretary Mat Johnston said.
“We have experienced HR practitioners and senior managers saying to us they are being asked to enact significant and wide ranging change in ways they are not comfortable with, ways they know clearly breach the employer’s Award obligations.
“It’s disappointing that we have to take an action like this against any employer but what’s more disappointing is the attitude and actions of the uncaring and cruel government that has no regard for its employees and their rights.”
We’ll update Members next Wednesday in the regular bulletin on any progress at Monday’s hearing before DP Wells in Hobart.
