March 4: Groundswell across country

YESTERDAY thousands of union members across Australia rallied against the Federal Government’s attack on the working lives and living conditions of Australians.

Workers stood up for jobs, public services, workers’ rights, pensions and Medicare.

In Tasmania union members attended two events, in Hobart and Launceston.

Members representing a range of workers attended, with the crowd decked out in everything from high vis to business attire.

“We believe in good government that nurtures our community,” Unions Tasmania State Secretary Steve Walsh said. “We are here to reject their conservative agenda on our rights and living standards.”

The crowd heard about cuts to public services at a federal and state level, and what it would mean if entitlements such as penalty rates and universal health care were stripped away.

Thanks to all who attended, it was a great stand against an attack on workers and the most vulnerable Australians.

Take a look at our Facebook photo album here, to look at photos from the day. See more photos from around Australia here or check the #March4 hashtag on social media. The photos were flooding in from around the country all day, it’s worth a look!
