Alexander Spirit: Your support needed
SUPPORT or join the community rally that’s on tomorrow to support Australian jobs, Australian shipping and demonstrate support for the sacked crew of the Alexander Spirit.
Background: Last Thursday 36 workers on the Alexander Spirit were notified that they would be terminated on arrival in Singapore and replaced with foreign workers. This occurred only after the workers pursued information because they had heard rumours. These workers chose not to leave port until the company had answered a number of questions.
Today the Fair Work Commission ruled in favour of the employer. This means the Commission’s original order that no industrial action take place for a month remains in effect, and the crew must obey company orders from Teekay Shipping to sail to Singapore, where these workers will then be replaced.
These workers need your support!
