CommSec State of the States: July 2015

WHILE the CommSec State of the State report for July 2015 had some positive signs, there was still a lot of bad news. It comes after the number of jobs in our state dropped again in June, according to the latest ABS figures (read more here).

The CommSec results aren’t all rosy; in fact the report states that Tasmania remained at the bottom of the economic performance table.

The jobless rate was 6.9%, which is above the decade average; however, Tasmania was at the bottom of the chart when it came to population growth, which was sitting at below the decade average for our state.

The report showed that Tasmania is at the bottom of the charts when it comes to economic growth, we had the weakest result for retail spending, with Housing finance was down 13.3% on the decade average, with the weakest annual decline our state’s seen for almost three years. Equipment investment for Tasmania was also below our state’s decade average (-12.3%).
