Minimum wage review
ON FRIDAY Tasmanian unions attended a hearing at the Tasmanian Industrial Commission to vary the Tasmanian minimum wage in line with the recent Fair Work decision for the Annual Wage Review.
In 2015 the minimum wage increased by 2.5% from $640.90 to $656.90 a week.
The key outcome for Members is an increase of 2.5% for work related allowances from the first pay period after August 1 2015.
Tasmanian unions attend this hearing annually after the Fair Work Commission hands down its decision on how much pay Australia’s lowest paid workers will receive.
Australian Unions lobby to raise the minimum wage each year as it’s an important safety net for the lowest paid workers in our society and also provides a good reference point for bargaining.
