Standing together: Doctors’ action to advocate for their patients
WE CAN learn a lot from the recent action of doctors at Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital.
They stood together and told the Government that they won’t send children back into detention, as it’s against their Hippocratic Oath as professionals. The government’s actions were obstructing their obligation to make decisions that were in the best interests of these children.
Together they acted to protect their professional standards and the children in their care. A stance supported by the Royal Australian College of Physicians, the Royal Children’s Hospital Chairman and the Australian Medical Association.
Every day decisions are made that impact our work as professionals. If our professional standards aren’t able to be met, it’s important that we act together.
