CPSU staff profile: Administration Assistant Lauren Miller
IT’S that you’ve probably encountered Lauren or one of our other admin staff. In the office Lauren’s known as a bit of a wildlife warrior, and today she was even looking after an orphaned native hen was found on the side of the road this morning until it was collected by a carer. Here’s more about Lauren.
Why I’m a union member:
Growing up my Dad always instilled to my brother and me the importance of joining a union as soon as we started work.
Dad had been in the union for his whole working life (the same as his Dad, my Grandpa), eventually becoming the Secretary for his union. He is incredibly passionate about helping and supporting workers and campaigning for fairness in the workplace.
I guess his enthusiasm rubbed off onto me, and pretty much all of the Miller family, and I am now finding myself saying to anyone who has told me they have started a new job, ‘make sure you join a union!’ I started at the CPSU just over three-and-a-half years ago after working for CEPU.
How I help Members:
My role consists of heaps of different tasks, but I definitely enjoy working with members. In admin we are the first people a member speaks to when calling or walking into our office, so I find that it’s important I am friendly and always make our members feel at ease.
We are the ones you’ll call on about your membership details, if you need to make a payment or even buy some discounted movie tickets, shopping vouchers or talk about our other promotions.
I’m a huge animal lover. My partner and I have two dogs and a cat. We love taking our dogs to the beach and letting them off their leads so they can go for a splash in the water!
My partner works for Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, so we are both huge advocates of protecting our beautiful wildlife and making sure these animals are around for generations to come.
