Public sector bargaining: Will Won’t meet

Well, we’re still waiting to hear back from Premier Will Hodgman – as we’d like to meet with him to talk about wages. We sought an urgent meeting with him on 6 May but so far we’ve had no response to our request, so industrial and campaign action continues….

In the meantime, Tasmania public sector workers fall further behind their interstate counterparts. Wage Price Index data released yesterday shows wages paid to Tasmanian public sector workers has risen by just 1.1% in the past 12 months compared to a national average increase of 2.4%. The private sector in Tasmania recorded the highest increase in the country at 3.1% but the public sector recorded the lowest. Why do Liberals hate the public sector so much?
