The government continues to claim it’s bargaining in good faith while the people we are meeting with acknowledge they have no scope to negotiate and the Premier, Will Hodgman, flatly refuses to meet with us.
Meanwhile, there seems to be some confusion about who is and who isn’t a frontline worker. This has become an important issue as the government has promised no frontline workers will be sacked as part of their $450m budget cuts.
According to the Premier, Service Tasmania workers are frontline if they are ‘dealing with people’ but he wouldn’t say if those working in Bushfire Recovery were frontline. Eventually he said that a person who performs a service that supports our community is a frontline worker – so that’s everyone!
In his usual way the Treasurer was less forthcoming. He couldn’t even confirm that Child Safety Officers were frontline.
