Libraries action

Last week Libraries Tasmania Hobart workers raised awareness of issues in their service.

CPSU Members at the Hobart Library wobble boarded outside the service last Wednesday and handed out flyers to flag concerns about the overuse of casual staff at libraries and the impact on the service statewide.

After the recent union meeting of library workers, Members at the Hobart Library formed a group to develop action to keep the campaign running and highlight issues at Libraries Tasmania.

This group decided on a wobbleboard in the Hobart CBD yesterday to raise awareness of issues like casual work at the Library. They came up with slogans and even held a sign making workshop.

“We had a meeting with other sites and came up with an action and it grew from there.
“We wanted to highlight the large number of casual workers there are at Libraries Tasmania. We’d really like to see more workers put into permanent positions in libraries. Casual work is no good for many workers because they don’t have that job security, and it ends up being more expensive for the employer as well.”

CPSU Delegate David Bloomfield explains.

This is a great example of Members at a worksite getting together and making things happen.
