Public Sector Allowances Increase

Every year the CPSU appears before the Tasmanian Industrial Commission to ensure your allowances and entitlements are increased in line with your wages. The new rates apply from 25 May 2022, so if you think you’re being underpaid, get in touch with CPSUDirect by calling 6234 1708 or online. We’re here to help.

Incidental Allowance:

Increased to $20.60 from 25 May 2022.

The Incidental Allowance is payable per overnight stay when undertaking work related travel.

Travel Allowances for Meals:
Breakfast increased to $29.20
Lunch increased to $32.85
Dinner increased to $56.00

Workers are entitled to these allowances preceding or following an overnight stay when undertaking work related travel.

Camping in Tent Allowance:
Allowance increased to $67.85

An employee who stays overnight in a tent to undertake work is to be paid this allowance for each overnight stay. If your Employer isn’t setting up the tent for you and isn’t providing the bed or bunk, you will be entitled to this higher allowance rather than the ‘camp, hut or shelter’ allowance.

Camping in Standing Camps, Huts or Shelters:
Allowance increased to $57.30

An employee who stays overnight in a standing camp, hut or shelter is entitled to be paid this allowance per overnight stay. A standing camp, hut or shelter means any type of shelter provided by the Employer. The Employer must provide you with a bed or bunk, and cooking appliances and equipment must be provided by your Employer (not carried in by workers). If your Employer can’t provide shelter and equipment on site, then they must pay you a higher allowance of $67.85.

Non-commercial Accommodation Allowance:
Allowance increased to $47.25

An employee who stays overnight in non-commercial accommodation is entitled to this allowance per overnight stay. Non-commercial accommodation will typically include hot and cold running water, sleeping quarters, and bathroom and kitchen facilities.
